Aloha!
I’m excited about this post! Before getting started, in my last post (t-shirt rug) I forgot to put the # of strips I used for my t-shirt rug….393 to be exact. Just FYI.
Ok, here we go! After making washer necklaces for a church camp, I decided to use up the extra washers for something. At first I wasn’t sure what to do with them. But after a few weeks and a bunch of other projects, I got my bright idea….to make washer earrings!
Below are the supplies that you’ll need to complete this project.
I hope the picture isn’t too big. I want to be sure you can easily see all the materials needed. Here’s what you need (from left to right):
1. Scrap pieces of paper. Be sure it is heavier than printer paper. Designer paper is best because it’s not as thick as card stock. Card stock works too.
2. Glue or adhesive, namely Mod Podge and Diamond Glaze. The Mod Podge is to glue the paper to the washer and the Diamond Glaze provides a raised clear coat on the top.
3. Scissors or exacto knife is fine too.
4. Wire of choice. For this project I used silver plated wire. I think this would also look great with a copper or darker wire. Be sure to use thinner wire (higher gauge) because it’s pliable and easier to work with.
5. Tools – Bent nose pliers, round nose pliars, flat pliars, and a wire cutter. Not sure if those are all the technical terms. Hopefully the picture is clear enough for you to see the difference in the tools.
6. Ear wire of choice. In this case I have silver plated.
7. Washers -¼” washers from Home Depot. They came in a pack of 25 & they’re very inexpensive!
8. Pencil (not pictured)
Ok, you’re ready to go! Keep in mind that this project takes a few days to complete. It needs time to dry, twice before you can get creative wrapping it. The good thing about it is that it’s a blank canvas you can create on. Anyways! Here are a few of my samples…
